A valid SEP reason is typically active employer-sponsored health insurance through your own or your spouse's current employer.

Pre-filled with the 2026 standard premium. Update if CMS has changed it.

How the Part B Penalty Works

The Part B late enrollment penalty is calculated as 10% of the standard Part B premium for each full 12-month period you were eligible for Part B but did not enroll — without a valid Special Enrollment Period reason.

The penalty is permanent. It is added to your Part B premium for as long as you have Part B.

The penalty percentage is based on the standard premium, but if IRMAA applies to you, your total premium will be even higher.

⚠️ VA Coverage Does NOT Protect You from This Penalty

VA health care is NOT considered a valid reason to delay Part B. If you relied only on VA health care and delayed Part B, you may owe this penalty.
